When Fighting Monsters

“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster… for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”

wind4After a break from posting I’m back. I have been creating artwork during my word press black out and have a lot to update. Thanks for coming back!

More to come on this concept art. In the theatre of conflict, even an out matched and overran foe can even the odds through cunning and raw firepower.

Squid

Sorry its been a while…newborn baby and back in school. Time is my enemy!

This is a sketch from a year ago that I photoshoped tonight. It was for an artificial texture assignment concept, but wasnt used in the end.

Mechanical animals anyone? Growing up in the 80’s, I fell in love with Battle Beasts…best toys ever! Animal humanoids with body armor, weapons, vehicles and best of all…Holograms!!!

Oh, Nostalgia.

“Copter” VTOL Drone

Image

This is a glimpse of the near future. Everything will be automated.

The assault will be lead with drones with a few stealths overseeing the attack.

Maybe your local police will fly these, or a private security contractor.

I added a thrust vectoring nozzle to replace the tail rotor and imply advanced

helicopter aerobatics.Perhaps it has a mind of its own, we’ll just have to see.

F-35 XL (Twin Engine F-35)

This kind of reminds me of the YF-23 and the J-20.

I wanted to make a Navy safe version/ heavier fighter bomber

aircraft. This could come in a stretched two seater as well I suppose.

The wing is a delta configuration.

No forward canards…US doesn’t believe in them.

FYI I made the name F-35 XL as a reference to the F-16XL

prototypes: an extended fuselage/wing for an extended

range fighter-bomber model (it lost the competition to the F-15E

Strike Eagle so it was cancelled) and the prototypes were given to

NASA- check them out:

A-RAV (Autonomous Robotic Armored Vehicle)

This is a piece of concept art I made (in photoshop) for the BAD ELEMENT saga.  I am hoping to self publish a graphic novel or a series of short stories beginning this year (if I can find the time between work school and family!!).

13 tons of alloy, weaponry and animal agility. The A-RAV carries a four man tiger team in its payload. It is remotely or autonomously operated throughout the hot-zone. Standard armament is an anti personnel machine gun, anti armor rockets and surface to air missiles. All of the weapon pylons extend from internal weapons bays and retract  when not in use or rearming. integrated sensors give the A-RAV a 360 view in its environment providing a constant awareness level. The vehicle also extends the secure network like a hub and can engage in e warfare with its powerful electronic comm system. The A-RAV protects its team from medium fire power and excessive radiation levels.

Crowd funding

I am working on a story that has multiplied into a trilogy which has now developed into a tetralogy. I have named this arching story Bad Element.

The definition of crowd funding is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowd_funding

I want to take my concept art and create a graphic novel and eventually a create a film and possibly a video game. In the end this would be great to turn into a web comic too. Tell your friends!

Hypersonic Bombers

Big thanks to my client and new friend Christoph Petry for the commission of this work and for approaching me for this project. It was really cool taking your ideas, adding mine and creating these planes. Sie rocken Mann!

-Hypersonic aircraft from the future- designed with scram jet technology these bombers are self-powered and can dash at Mach 10. Based on real technology in development.

US bomber is a multi mission designed to perform hypersonic strikes and conventional bomber missions. The Russian Aircraft is more of a space plane, designed for delivery of nuclear weapons and suborbital flight.

Fighter-Bomber

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Concept:

A stretched fighter, mini-bomber, designated for deep strike missions similar in scope to the F-111 Aardvark and the F-117 Night-Hawk, like a stealth F-15E Strike Eagle. The are designed to get to targets fast, out in the middle of nowhere. They are bomb trucks that can protect themselves from enemy fighters with air to air defenses. They fit in a sweet spot of better protected than a standard bomber, and carry more ordnance than a fighter.

Details:

The tailless design gives it greater stealth. The delta-wing design gives the jet a large wing area, enabling super-cruise and greater range. The co-pilot, conducts hard and electronic attacks or drone operation. A backwards facing radar between the engines targets would be aggressors.

VTOL Dropship

These ships carry people to obscure places, and are built to take some pain. The landing craft can carry weapons to protect themselves and the LZ’s, if necessary.

This is second generation tilt rotor. AI formulated props increased lift by 50% while also decreasing prop wash.

They are primarily used for insertion, but are well equipped for CSAR missions too.

Heavy Air Support

This is a heavy aircraft designed to supply fuel, fire power, cargo and intel. It is a Spec Ops gunship, cargo, and tanker- all in one. Similar to the Harvest Hawk KC-130J concept by the US Marines. The gunship is between a C-130 and a A400M in size. This plane features a double wing for long range missions and a larger amount of fuel to offload for IFR. The Forewing features multiple hardpoints for munitions, accepting cruisemissles, smart bombs etc. The Aft Wing features two refueling pods, and several additional hardpoints. The main weapons are the side mounted cannons. Like the AC-47 Spooky/ AC-130 Spectre gunship’s this is a cheap way to rain down heavy firepower, with precision strike, on ground targets. A heavy cannon and a gattling autocannon is sported on each side of the craft, which enables it to fly a circuit of destruction in any direction. The larger cannon is a 120mm designed to destroy ships and buildings, and large crowds, where the smaller 25 mm autocannon is usually used for everything else. Though primarily used in lower tech battlespaces, the canted tail stabs and other features reduce radar signature to an acceptable levels of risk-until its stealthy replacement is fielded.

Lurcher

.

A man-sized quadruped robot capable of limited self-directed decisions. An offspring of the robotic mule program, a jungle supply unit, it was so successful that a combat version was adapted. Structured/modeled after a scaled down version of the skeletal system of the extinct cave bear-it shadows the evolution of a perfect killer. A larger prototype is in the works. NJD

Future Close Air Support / Attack Plane

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is the Future Close Air Support attack aircraft. I designed this as the future replacement of the A-10. Yes, in a way this is a tribute to the A-10-it’s a beast and I loved working on that monster.

The A-10 has seen success in a CAS role in today’s conflicts, and it could be the best at what it does. However, it is getting old and a replacement is needed. I have read alot about close air support and I have tried to keep the advantages of the A-10 but also improve upon the design.

You may be familiar with the O/A-10, a two seat night strike variant that never made it out of the trial stage, this concept is the next evolutionary step of that animal. This creation’s cannon, much like the A-10’s GAU-8 Avenger, is its main weapon. I imagined a 40mm projectile, 4 barreled autocannon- with a high rate of fire in very small bursts. The second man/woman in the cockpit could do any number of duties as seen in other 2-man ships-like the F-15 strike eagle, etc.  The engines would have increased efficiency yet able to produce enough power to make 600 mph+ dashes when needed. But this plane is designed to fly low and slow- and to take a beating and keep going-just like her predecessor.

And, it was fun to make too.
